Frequently asked questions about small series manufacturing
What volumes do you manufacture in-house?
We produce 10 to 500 units per batch in our facility near Annecy, France. This covers validation pre-series, commercial small series and recurring low-volume production runs. Above 500 units, we organize the transfer to our industrial manufacturing partners while ensuring technical and quality continuity.
What is the difference between a pre-series and a small series?
A pre-series (typically 10 to 50 units) validates the manufacturing process before commercial launch: we test repeatability, cycle times and quality compliance. A small series (50 to 500 units) is a commercial production run at low volume — products are delivered to end customers. At AQ-Tech, we handle both in our facility, with the same level of traceability and control.
Can you manufacture a product you didn’t design?
Yes. If you provide a complete technical package (drawings, BOMs, test specifications), we can handle assembly and production. We conduct a manufacturability review before launch to identify any adjustments needed.
What are your typical lead times for a pre-series?
Lead times depend on product complexity and component availability. Typically: 2 to 4 weeks for a validation pre-series (10–50 units), 4 to 8 weeks for a commercial small series (50–500 units). We provide a detailed schedule at the quoting stage.
How much does small series production cost?
Cost depends on several factors: product complexity, number of components, required assembly technologies (mechanical, electronic, textile) and order volume. We quote each project individually, with a breakdown by item: components, labor, quality control. Send us your technical package and we’ll respond within 48 hours with a detailed estimate.
How do you handle the transition to large-scale production?
We prepare the industrial transfer from the pre-series stage: process documentation, manufacturing sequences, standardized quality controls. When your volumes exceed our in-house capacity, we transfer to our qualified industrial partners while providing training and technical oversight.
Do you perform quality controls?
Yes. Every product is inspected at multiple stages: incoming component check, assembly, functional testing and final inspection. All results are logged in our ERP for complete traceability by batch and serial number.
Do I need a complete technical package to get started?
Ideally yes — drawings, BOMs and test specifications streamline the process. But if your documentation is incomplete, we can support you through our engineering team to finalize the technical documentation before production.
How do you handle confidentiality?
We sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) before any technical exchange. Your drawings, BOMs and production data remain strictly confidential. We can also set up specific agreements on intellectual property for processes developed together.
Can you integrate multiple technologies in a single product?
That’s what we do. Our facility combines mechanical assembly, electronics integration and technical textile manufacturing on the same production lines. One point of contact, one team, no knowledge gap.
Can you work with teams outside France?
Yes. We regularly work with R&D teams across Europe — Switzerland, Germany, UK, Benelux. Project management is handled in English, and we can adapt shipping and logistics to your location. Technical reviews and progress meetings are conducted remotely as needed.
